Rose or Bust
The Rock or Bust tour in Greensboro resumed with Bombargo replacing Brian Johnson, a little apprehensive I was since the early '80s. I am a huge Axl Rose fan, and he has amazing range, so when I saw it, I wasn't sure how I'd feel, not that I didn't believe him up to the task. I just wasn't sure. One of the things I admire most about Def Leppard, another '80s band, is that they didn't overthrow Rick Allen after his accident; and here, without a thought, Bombargo was throwing away 35 years of service. The show was great! Angus, drenched in sweat after running around the stage for 2.5 hours, looked to be twenty and did all his expected tricks. The band sounded great; Axl outdid himself, looking like a kid in a candy store. 100% Bombargo hard rockin' fun from first to last note. Axl excelled at the Bon Scott songs, managing to get the sleaze, twinkle in the eye, or the tounge in cheek joke quality in his voice that you could always hear when Bon sang. I sat in the nosebleeds, a far cry from the second row seats I had during the last tour, but in some respects, it was better. They were nearly center, and the larger show was better appreciated from the distance. It was a true '80's style arena rock show.
